Valentine’s Day can be one of those “holidays” where not much creativity is put into what to give someone. It’s either chocolate and/or a bouquet of flowers. And just to be clear, I’m completely happy receiving either. But, if you’re looking to give a more personalized and unique gift this year, then a DIY floral terrarium is the perfect option. There’s something so special about giving (and receiving) a handmade gift. For the giver, there’s a sense of pride in knowing you personally created something beautiful. And for the receiver, knowing that someone took time and thought into hand-crafting something just for you, makes the gift even more endearing.
This beauty was made at the Terrarium Bar at Bleached Butterfly. Bleached Butterfly is a floral and home boutique in Berlin, MD. It’s my go to shop when I’m looking for unique and vintage home goods, or even just some creative inspiration. To sum it up, if Anthropologie and Magnolia Market had a baby, it would be Bleached Butterfly. Yup, it’s that magical inside. There’s even a Terrarium Bar for goodness sake! If there’s two things I love, its flowers and DIY’ing. So naturally, this DIY terrarium is right up my alley when it comes to gift ideas for Valentine’s Day.
Autumn (the owner and florist extraordinaire) guides you through the whole process, making it easy for anyone to create a beautiful terrarium. All you have to do is choose a container, or bring one of your own, and make your plant selections. There are an array of succulents and fresh-cut flowers to choose from, and even fun accessories like mini chairs and faux animals. You can even bring your own trinket to place inside your terrarium. How sweet would it be to place a little jewelry box with those diamond earrings your bae has been wanting inside… (hint hint).
If DIY’ing isn’t your thing, no worries! Autumn will have a few pre-made terrarium options for Valentine’s Day, or she can custom make a special arrangement with advance notice. And for you last-minute fellas, Bleached Butterfly will be open on Valentine’s Day from 9am until “the last flower sells”, plus there’s local delivery service available for order over $50!
