Scenes from California

One of my favorite bloggers, Lark & Linen, does a post every Friday called Scenes From My Week where she shares pics of her weekly escapades. I’m always in awe by how beautiful her weeks are. There’s snapshots of whimsical flower arrangements, behind the scenes of styled shoots, pretty details from a design project she’s working on, date nights at cute little neighborhood restaurants. My real life is nowhere near as glamorous as hers. But my vacation-life in California was filled with the loveliest of sights. So here are a few scenes from our trip.

We stayed at the Viceroy hotel in Santa Monica, and it was EVERYTHING! It was designed by Kelly Wearstler. Need I say more? Its eclectic & moody interior was the perfect fusion of vintage and modern decor, mixed with Pinterest-worthy design elements, like this wall of plates. I was so mad at myself for not bringing all my camera gear so I could fully capture its glory. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who may be traveling to California. california-3 california-4I also highly recommend staying in Santa Monica (versus LA or Hollywood) — we loved being so close to the beach and pier. Our last day there, we were supposed to stay in Hollywood because we were going to the John Williams concert at the Hollywood Bowl, and wanted to be close by because we kept hearing horror stories about LA traffic. However, we fell in love with the Viceroy so much that we didn’t want to leave, and decided to book another night there and just deal with the traffic. We planned our day trip wisely and made sure we were off the road during peak hours, so we were able to avoid any terrible traffic issues. We decided to take the scenic route into LA because I wanted to see some of the neighborhoods. We drove by some of the cutest little houses (which I’m sure had million dollar price tags despite their size). california-5{This beautiful wood door}

During our day trip to LA we visited Griffith Observatory, which had stunning architecture and amazing views of the city. But the smog…

california-8I mean, I hear people talk about it all the time, but actually seeing how bad the air quality truly is was a bit saddening. That, and the homeless population. What seemed strange to me was that people I’ve talked to who have visited or live in California never seem to mention how bad it is, almost as if they’re unfazed by it. Our hearts were so grieved by the amount of homelessness … in the midst of so much wealth. Our prayers go out to them. california-10 california-11

All in all, we had a lovely time in California. It was filled with so much beauty and inspiration and much needed rest and relaxation. We are already planning our next trip back!

    Wonderful! Thank you for the quick pics! They are super cool! I especially loved the wall with all of the succulents! And the last one with the subtle shades in the architecture over that big old brass door… so bright and crisp, you really captured the feel of the place!
