Welp, it’s the last day in January, but Happy New Year none the less! I know it’s been a while since we’ve chatted, so I hope 2017 is treating you good so far and that you’re staying on top of your resolutions, if making resolutions is your thing. I love resolutions, mainly because I’m an avid to-do list maker. I’m talking the handwritten, paper and pencil kind (not those fancy digital/apps ones). There’s something about physically writing things down, and checking it off. It’s the only way I can feel organized and pretty much can’t function without one. My days start (and sometimes end) with me making a checklist of all the things I need to accomplish for the day/week. I’ll admit, I even add things to my to-do list that I’ve already accomplished just to get the satisfaction of checking it off. But when it comes to my 2017 goals, I’m doing something a little different this year. Instead of focusing on a detail oriented list of tasks and goals that I want to accomplish, I’m focusing on a theme to guide me through the year. And that theme is: The Year of Wellness.
Okay I’ll be honest, I still wrote out some goals in checklist form, because I just love making list so much. But my overall mission is not to place check marks in those boxes, but rather to ensure the things I set out to do this year reflect wellness. Physical, spiritual, and mental wellness.
I don’t think there is one of us that doesn’t want to be well and live well, but personally speaking, so little of my daily routine focuses on it. I have a lot of bad habits… I don’t eat “well”, I rarely exercise, I check emails and social media before bed (which is terrible for your mental wellness), I don’t read my Bible as much as I’d like to, and the list goes on. So I’m not surprised that my physical, mental, and spiritual wellness suffered in 2016. So this is the year to get everything back on track. And instead of being concerned with frivolous goals like blog more, grow my social media, and “officially” launch my interior design business, my primary focus this year is my wellness.
I’ve already made a few lifestyle changes –everything from nutrition and natural beauty routines to phone “time-outs” and meditation. I plan to share some of my progress and results on the blog, and if you guys have any physical, mental, or spiritual wellness routines that have been helpful for you, let me know! Also, I’m curious to hear if you have a theme or motto that’s guiding your New Year? Leave a comment below so we can all chat, inspire and encourage one another!
In other news, I have to give a shout out to the talented Sarah Murray for these photos. She is the best wedding photographer in town! I still can’t get over how stunning our wedding photos turned out. If you follow me on social media then you may already know that a few weeks ago I was her guinea pig as she practiced shooting on a film camera for the first time (she typically shoots with a digital camera). Guys, this was her FIRST time and the photos turned out this lovely. That’s what a call a GOD-given gift! You can see more photos from the shoot and read about her journey with film photography, on her blog here.
