A few years ago, instead of making New Year resolutions, I would proclaim a word for the year. It’s become a very popular alternative to resolution making, and although I’m not sure how other people go about choosing their word, for me, it’s a very intuitive process. I don’t assess my life and pick a word that is indicative of what I want to achieve the next year, or flip through a dictionary to find a word that resonates with me. I simply sit quietly for a few minutes, and the first word I hear in my spirit is the word for the year.
Honestly, after I write the word down in my Journal, and share it with you guys on social media, I don’t give much thought to the word after that. I don’t scribble it on a post-it note and stick in inconspicuous areas of my home, or meditate on it everyday. I simply hear it, journal it, and then go on with my life (not sure if that’s the “right way” to do it, but oh well). It’s not until the end of each year, when I re-assess my life that I realize how much that word has supernaturally manifested throughout the 365 days.
For example, in 2020 my word was “growth”. And somehow, despite the world being in a full-fledged pandemic, and not being able to work the first half of the year due to shut downs, my business grew more and I made more money than I ever had. Not only did I experience growth in my business and finances, but that word translated to my marriage and family life, as well.
In 2021, my word was “create”. And man, oh man was last year my most creative year, yet! I accomplished some fun home projects for the blog like my living room makeover, and office makeover, and I got to film (ie. create) a TV show!
So now, here we are in 2022, and although I have prior years evidence that my intrinsic method of “hearing” a word for the year actually works, I’m not too sure about the word that I hear for 2022. When I heard the word a few weeks ago, I was kind of confused. It wasn’t very awe-inspiring or motivating like words from previous years, and felt pretty anticlimactic. So for the last few days I’ve been trying to “hear” another word. A girl I follow on IG said her word was “simplify”, which I really like, and kind of want that to be my word for the year …but I can’t stop hearing this other word…
I know what you’re thinking, “just tell us the word already, Keyanna”! Okay fine.
My word for 2022 is…
“BE”.
That’s all I hear… “BE”.
Just… “BE”.
Truthfully, I’m not really sure exactly how that word is to direct my path for 2022. And unlike previous years where I didn’t give any thought to the word after I hear it, because it’s typically a word that has a bit more “substance”, I’ve been pondering and meditating on what it means to “BE”.
What I’m realizing is that this little two-letter word actually means a myriad of things to me. It encompasses everything that I desire to BE.
Be present. Be confident. Be loving. Be healthy. Be content. Be patient. Be fearless. Be YOU…and the list goes on.
Perhaps 2022 is the year for me to BEcome the person that God has ordained me to BE.

Beautiful!!
I go about picking my word the same way! This year
I wanted it to be a specific word but the word that was given to me is … Bloom.
OMG I LOVE THAT WORD!! One of the mottos I live by is “bloom where you are planted”. Such a beautiful word to direct your year. Thank you for sharing!
Keyanna, the word “BE” brought tears to my eyes. That word is extremely powerful to me, it is a word of wholeness, and solitude. It sets a precedence in my world that allows me to feel everything that I need to feel and to except my truth of my moments in my now. I appreciate you and your valuable worth! This is a wonderful way to start the year and your pictures are AMAZING!! You are truly “BE”-ing your authentic beautiful “simplified” SELF! My word of the year is “Clarity” attached to that is “Peace” when you have clarity, peace of mind follows. He also gave me a scripture which is Psalm 71. I have taken my time in this for the first time to settle myself in that for this year, with clarity brings a confidence that has a blessed spirit of assurity, (which means a firm promise) that brings an inner comfort to one’s “BE-ing!” Love you Beautiful! Thank you so much for this!!
Wow! I couldn’t quite explain what the word means to be, but you summed it up perfectly — Wholeness and solitude! That’s exactly how I feel when I hear the word. Thank you for sharing that! And love your word clarity! You are exactly right, with clarity comes peace of mind. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE THAT!
Well, this is a great way to start the New Year! So after reading your post , I went to close my eyes to see what word came to me and before I could even settle myself the word manifest came in my mind and I tried to rethink a word but all I kept hearing was manifest!!! I don’t know what that means for me but I will surely let life go on and see what will manifest for me this year. Thanks for a new way at looking at the New Year!!! You are a true inspiration and I am super proud of you and all you have accomplished!!! Have a blessed and prosperous year Key!!!
Manifest- I love that! That is exactly what happened to me, every time I tried to rethink the word I would just keep hearing the same thing–that’s how you know it’s meant to be! Excited to see how that word unfold for you!
The word I keep hearing is Flow! I am to allow the gifts and talents placed within me to flow out freely. I was so accustomed to dumbing down my gifts and talents so that I could push and support others. But this is my season to flow spiritually, emotionally, physically, and financially. I Will Flow!!!
Wow, love that word! This is you season! So excited to see the doors that open for you as you flow this year!
Show.
“Shower the people you love, with love…SHOW them the way that you feel…” James Taylor
Show how I appreciate my husband by baking a pie (his #1 favorite food).
Show that I love in actions, not spoken words (way too many in my past, “Chatty Elf” shirt given as proof!).
Show I love my flowering plants by trimming them, feeding them. Then the blooms are a double-good reward!
Show I know my fur baby ECGolden Retriever needs a gorgeous coat by not skipping a brushing. She loves it; I love it. Use honeysuckle scent spray!
It may be like turning a pressure-valve, and I’ll feel lighter. Let it out. Show!!
LOVE THIS SO MUCH! Thank you for sharing!
My word for 2022 is Manifest! I’ve definitely gone through growth, in so many aspects of my life in the past few years. Create really blessed me, God created so many open doors for my family and I, I can’t express them all here. So now back to MANIFEST! Considering prior to now I’ve never sat and asked God for a word for the year, and Manifest was what He so eloquently gave me. I’m elated to see where this MANIFEST journey will lead me.
I loved reading this!
After God put the word “CHANGE” on my heart for 2020 back in 2018, I appreciated His heads up for the landslide of changes that were unleashed all within 2020: a chosen new job (a possibility I’d known about in 2018), followed by the unexpected pandemic, and topped off with me being blindsided by my ex-husband’s affair and his desire for divorce which then meant a new home and adjustment to single motherhood. I was relieved that He gave me the word “HOPE” for 2021, and I saw that word come alive as new growth blossomed in community and progress within the pandemic. A few days before 2022 began, I sensed my word for this year is “JOY.” I’m excited to see how this year takes shape with “JOY” as my vision, and I pray that you have a BEautiful year as well. 😉
Wow! I love this! I generally hear in words and/or phrases:
2019- “Clarity”
2020- “Stay the course”
2021- “Glow”
2022- “The course to greater” with a side of “I’m throwing hands (Psalm 144:1)!” LOL!
2022 seems to be doing a whole lot- but I can understand why.
“Be” resonates with me so much! I absolutely love that we can just be all we were created to be unapologetically without succumbing to the projections or expectations of others or society…. It’s a beautiful thing!
I can’t wait to see the manifestation of your word in your life this year!! It’s going to be amazing!!
